Halloween Lunchbox
Looking for an easy Halloween lunchbox idea that feels festive without requiring a ton of extra work? These mini mummy dogs (or “Halloweenies”) are such a fun way to turn a simple lunch into something your kids will be excited to open!
They’re always a huge hit with my kids and made with just a few ingredients! I filled the rest of the lunchbox with some spooky fruits and snacks that naturally fit a Halloween lunchbox theme.

Mini Mummy Hot Dogs
Recipe:
These little mummy dogs are basically bite-sized pigs in a blanket—with candy eyes to make them Halloween-ready.
Ingredients:
1 package mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages
1 tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
Ketchup
Instructions:
Preheat your oven according to the directions on the crescent roll package.
Unroll the crescent dough and cut it into thin strips.
Wrap a few strips of dough around each mini hot dog, leaving small gaps so they look like mummy bandages.
Arrange the mummy dogs on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake according to the crescent roll package directions, or until the dough is puffed and lightly golden.
Let them cool completely before adding the eyes.
Add a tiny dab of ketchup to the back of each candy eyeball and use it to stick the eyes onto your mummy dogs.
TIP: Don't add the eyeballs before baking—they can melt or discolor in the oven. The little dab of ketchup works perfectly as edible “glue.”
Build a Halloween Lunchbox:
I kept the rest of the lunchbox really simple. Along with the Halloweenies, I packed blackberries and black grapes for some dark Halloween fruit colors, plus pea crisps that look like little witch fingers.
For the mini pumpkin, peel a Cutie mandarin and tuck a small piece of celery into the center for the stem. It takes about 10 seconds but makes the whole lunchbox look extra festive.
The finished lunchbox includes mini mummy dogs, blackberries, black grapes, a Cutie pumpkin, and pea-crisp witch fingers—an easy Halloween lunch that still has plenty of familiar foods kids actually want to eat.
Make-Ahead Tip
You can bake the mummy dogs the night before and refrigerate them once cooled. In the morning, add the candy eyes and pack them into the lunchbox cold with an icepack. If you want to send them to school warm, warm in the oven, add eyeballs, and pack in a thermos with a folded paper towel on top. I usually send cold, as the candy eyeballs won’t survive as well with the warm method, but both are good!
Easy Halloween Lunch for Kids
You don't need an elaborate themed lunch to make Halloween feel special. A few candy eyeballs and some creative everyday foods can turn a regular lunchbox into something really fun.
